Driver's ed students to get insurance info via CD...

The 25-page presentation runs through a bunch of basic insurance concepts that some adults could find useful. It explains the difference between chargeable and non-chargeable losses (hitting another car versus a deer hitting you - the former can justify big increases in your insurance costs).

It also includes some eye-catching photos of why auto insurance is a requirement, backed up with visual commentary by characters from "The Simpsons." Morrison said the office got permission from "The Simpsons" agents before using the graphics.

"They said they had no problem," Morrison said. "Nobody's making money off it, and it's free publicity for them, so what's not to like?"

The CDs containing the presentations are just hitting mailboxes of driver's ed instructors. Missoula County Public Schools driver's education coordinator Cindy Gaumer said she'd received her copy, but hadn't reviewed it with her colleagues yet.

"We will distribute it to teachers when school starts," Gaumer said. "Any curriculum we get from the state needs to be taken seriously. I imagine most of the teachers will use it in the classroom."
