Labasa Police have arrested and charged a 53 year old Primary School teacher for slapping a 10 year old class five student yesterday.

Police confirm that the Maths teacher was taking a class when he asked the 10 year old girl to answer a question. He slapped her several times when the young girl was unable to answer the question.

She received injuries and was treated and sent home.

The teacher has been charged with Assault Occasioning Actual bodily harm and has been bailed to appear in court on a later date.

In a separate incident police are questioning a Primary school teacher of Suva for allegedly throwing a bottle of twink at a class seven student.

Assistant spokesperson Corporal Prashila Narayan confirms that the incident took place yesterday during the Mathematics class.
