SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Nicole Parra (D-Hanford), today, introduced AB 2045, legislation that will allow poor and rural school districts to more easily obtain state funding for necessary facility construction.
Under current law, the State Allocation Board provides funding to school districts for the construction and modernization of school facilities, and any funding appropriated is considered final. In other words, school districts cannot currently petition for additional monies if their costs are greater than expected.
AB 2045 creates an exception allowing the State Allocation Board to approve a supplement of up to 10% of the cost of a project in order to ensure that all necessary facilities are included in a given project.
This bill also calls for an increase in the total bonding capacity, from $5 million to $7.5 million, that a school district may have while still remaining eligible to qualify for financial hardship funding.
AB 2045 now heads to the Assembly Rules Committee, where it will be assigned to the appropriate policy committee.
